Fished Fairfield - Lake Pasture on Friday, 3/23 from 7:30 - Noon. I found the green plastic boat but it was full of water. Luckily I had a bucket because it was too heavy to turn it over until I bailed for a couple of minutes. Then I almost stepped on a water mocassin that was curled up under the front of the boat. He barely flenched and then went back to sleeping.
It was 49 degrees at start and foggy, then bluebird skies. The water was stained with less than a foot visibility. The water temperature was 65 at start and 69 at the end.
I boated about 12 bass. Most were between 17 - 18”, chunky 2.5 - 3+ #s. The heaviest was 3 lbs. 12 ozs. Only a couple were small, 10 - 12”. Several of them appear to have already spawned. I lost a few, maybe 3 or 4, at the boat.
Most were caught on a double willow spinnerbait in about 3’ or less. I also caught a few on a Big Baits Fighting Frog, TX rigged, or a 1/4 oz. chrome RattleTrap.
I lost a huge one. I never saw her but I believe she could have earned me a check in the Big Bass contest. I hooked her close to the boat with maybe 10’ of line out. She took off to the right and the line held (20#) but she pulled off of the hook.
The jon boat is in the water, upside down, across from the parking area. This lake is not one of the prettiest properties in the club but I was pleasantly suprised. I got the impression that it was kind of in the middle of a flat pasture, without trees. The lake is in a valley and there are surrounding trees with the sounds of birds, etc.
The surrounding pasture was full of tall clover, unlike in the photo. BTW, I wish I had taken some photos. I think the website needs some updated photos. Too bad this lake isn’t closer to Dallas (this almost $4 gas is a killer).
The green boat is not bad. The floor is too flimsy to stand on unless you are standing on the wooden floor pieces. I was able to move the front wooden floor piece all of the way to the front (they are held down with ties) so that I could stand and operate my bow mounted TM.
If you haven’t been to Pasture, you should definitely go sometime. I think that on a non-bluebird sky day you could really kill ‘em.
