Fished 1/2 day am and 1/2 day pm at WCR. This seems best due to the travel distance from Dallas. It’ a 4 hour drive, but once you exit on Hwy 16, the scenry makes the drive pretty nice and tolerable. Blue bonnets and wild flowers are in bloom, everthing is very green this time of the year with the abundance of rain. What a difference from last year.
As soon as we entered the gate, we were greeted by a 5 foot rattle snake sunning on the dirt roadway. We were watching our steps after that for sure. That was the only snakle we spotted though.
The lake last trip was 6 to 7 feet low. This trip, water was flowing out of the over flow but chocolate in color due to recent winds and rains I suspect..
The guest house was very clean this trip compared to past trips and I complement the owners for this…
We caught probably 80 bass in the two half days of fishing. Most were in the 2 to 2.5 pound class, a couple of three’s, 1 over four pounds, and 1 over 5. The largerst went 22 inches,, but I did not have my camera for the big bass contest even though we entered.. Look out, we are not done yet… We retained 10 fish under 14 inches as required. Don’t have a weight on those total though.
The green 4 inch crawfish plastic bait was again the lure of choice Texas rigged this trip. These have proved successful our last three outings at various lakes.
Good fishing my friends. What a nice time of the year….
Looking forward to Reed Lake mid April now.
