A Korean exchange student and another PWF member, Roger Fankhauser, joined me fishing at Melody on Monday pm & all day Tuesday.
Monday was windy & cold, and my Korean friend was just learning the ropes. (You could win money on America’s Funniest Videos with his attempts to net my first good bass.) Still, we caught a few.
Roger joined us at the lodge Monday evening & we regrouped for Tuesday. Good fishing day, even the exchange student was catching them like an old pro by the evening!
All told we caught about 30 bass, harvested 17. I caught two 20 inchers, and between us we probably caught half a dozen 18 plus bass.
But we had several on that were likely bigger than 20 inches, including Roger’s big one that tangled in the fish basket, and another that I hooked near the boat house. Unfortunately, there is a metal stake in the water nearby, and in my anxious attempts to keep the fish away from the danger zone I let the line go slack. Just for a moment, but that’s all it took.
We also caught and released 8 or 10 bluegill.
The lake is full & emergent weeds are growing everywhere. We saw lots of surface action, both from bass & bluegill. Prime territory for a flyrod & Brim Killer fly! (Just don’t kill the brim…) Water clarity was good, around 2 feet.
Bluegill are still spawning, but seems like the bass are done. Shallow backwater areas were red hot just a few weeks ago, not any more.
