Dean French and I fished this lake this afternoon until 4:15.  Fishing was both difficult and slow.  Besides the weeds by shore, there are weed patches throughout the lake.  This makes lures with treble hooks very hard to fish.
We tried Texas rigged worms, lipless crank baits, tube jigs, buzzbaits, spinner baits and Banjo minnows.
While I did catch a nice 17” largemouth in the first half hour on a Texas rigged worm, the vast majority of our 12 fish were caught either on a tube jig or a Banjo minnow.  And most of those were caught near shore in 3 feet or less of water.  All other 11 fish were small - 10” to 13”.
I am getting the impression that this lake might best be fished in the heat of the summer using weedless topwater baits.  Any thoughts on this from others that have fished this body of water?
Air temp was mid-70’s. water temp was around 73 and visibility was about 2-3 feet.  Wind was from the northeast.  All in all, it was a pleasant day to be out on the water.  But, where are the 5 pounders that I have heard are in there?
